largest African American owned, public-private partnership real estate development firm with<\/p>\n\n\n\n
several offices spread throughout the country, including Jackson, MS. He is also a member of the<\/p>\n\n\n\n
FORBES Real Estate Council and has been a mentor and associate of Reimonenq for more than<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTraining is important because inadequate management is one of the leading causes of small<\/p>\n\n\n\n
business failure,\u201d says Brown. Most small business owners fail because they lack access to<\/p>\n\n\n\n
capital, have poor management, or fall victim to poor planning and execution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, there are an estimated 1,270 small businesses growing within Forrest and Lamar<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director Janita Stewart says that small businesses and their growth are critical to Mississippi\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n
economy and sees Linked Up as a necessary component in helping to nurture and sustain local<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHaving a resource center to help someone start a business or grow an existing one situated<\/p>\n\n\n\n
under the same roof is a great asset,\u201d says Stewart. \u201cSmall businesses and entrepreneurs need<\/p>\n\n\n\n
various resources to do what they do best, which is to create, make, sell something, or provide a<\/p>\n\n\n\n
viable service.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In spite of the pandemic, there has been a net growth in small businesses over the course of the<\/p>\n\n\n\n
past couple of years. In accordance with the U.S. Small Business Administration\u2019s Office of<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Advocacy, Mississippi small businesses saw a slight increase from 262,272 to 264,858 with<\/p>\n\n\n\n
some of these new-starts created out of necessity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen small businesses succeed, so does the economy,\u201d says Stewart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
